Graduate Students’ Voices 1

After completing my clinical training, I went on to a doctoral program. Many of our students graduated from universities other than the University of Tsukuba, and we have a diverse group of members, including doctors, psychologists, and international students. I am currently working as an industrial physician at the same time as a graduate student. In addition to providing guidance on research and writing papers, I am studying industrial physician work that is difficult to learn on my own with the guidance of doctors who specialize in occupational psychiatry in the classroom.

Graduate Students’ Voices 2

I am also engaged in clinical work at a psychiatric hospital while attending graduate school. In recent years, we have heard the term “direct birth,” but I personally believe that it is important to build a solid foundation for your career. The experience of actually learning from the basics of psychiatry to the latest knowledge in a clinical setting has given me a great deal of confidence. In addition, I have gained experience as an industrial physician and am in an environment where I can deepen my knowledge from multiple perspectives, and I am living a fulfilling life.

Laboratory exercises (for 1st-3rd year students of the School of Medicine)

Our research group specializes in occupational psychiatry and space medicine, and conducts research with an emphasis on disease prevention. In particular, we are conducting research on the mental health of workers, which has become a major problem in today’s stressful society, and on mental health care for astronauts. Treatment of mental illnesses such as depression takes a long time, and workers, in particular, often have to take time off to recuperate. We aim to proactively intervene before treatment is required. Through fieldwork in society such as companies, we have produced many research results that contribute to preventive medicine for workers using epidemiological methods such as questionnaire surveys and physiological methods such as fNIRS.

Specifically, themes include the discovery of factors that maintain and improve the mental health of workers, the fusion of AI technology and occupational medicine, the prevention of long working hours for teachers, and the improvement of stress tolerance in long-term closed environments. We look forward to the participation of students who are interested in and motivated in these themes.
